One of the reasons I started blogging back in 2007 was to showcase causes, groups, and people that are near and dear to my heart along with sharing of the positive vibes these causes generate and inspire.

For this post, we feature: Raising Men Lawn Care Service
We found out about Raising Men Lawn Care Service run by Rodney Smith Jr from watching “The Kelly Clarkson” show. The concept behind this cause is simple but profound; Rodney decided to create a service that helps local seniors, the disabled, single parents, and vets in his hometown of Huntsville, Alabama – with #FREE lawn care.
But since starting Raising Men Lawn Care, it has grown into a national project with the new! 50 Yard Challenge; which empowers kids 7 through 17 to also grab a lawnmower and cut lawns for 50 yards in their local community – all for FREE. Want your kid to join in on the #50YardChallenge – see details below straight from the RMLCS website.
We challenge you to cut 50 lawns FREE for the elderly, disabled, single parents, veterans, & anyone in need of help in your town. If you accept this challenge, all you need to do is send us a photo of you holding a sign saying “I accept the 50 Yard Challenge”, and in return, we’ll send you your white Raising Men/Women shirt along with shades & ear protection to get you started. For every 10 lawns cut, you will get a new color shirt.
This is a great example of a small grassroots way to help others not requiring a lot of money. What I like most about this cause started by Rodney is the simplicity of it – lawn care. On the website, it states that in the Summer & Fall months they offer lawn care service and the winter months they offer snow shoveling and or leaf raking. Simple but oh so! helpful and aimed at those who need it most; the elderly, disabled, single parents and vets. Kudos! to Rodney Smith Jr. 🙂
